Dozens of dog treats part of peanut butter recall
The list continues to grow of dog biscuits and treats being recalled because of potential salmonella contamination from peanut butter as two more companies have announced they are pulling products off store shelves and advising dog parents against feeding them to their pets.
Breadfarm of Bow, Washington, is recalling Sirius treats and Alaska Canine Cookies of Anchorage is recalling three flavors of its Canine Cookies because they contain peanut butter and peanut paste made by Peanut Corporation of America.

PCA is the focus of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration investigation into potential salmonella contamination of peanut butter and paste. The investigation has led to thousands of products - including dozens of dog treats - being taken off the shelves that contain peanut butter and paste made at the company's plant in Blakely, Georgia.
Breadfarm and Alaska Canine Cookies are the seventh and eight companies to recall dog treats because of potential salmonella contamination. Recalls have been previously been announced by American Health Kennels of Pompano Beach, Florida; American Nutrition of Ogden, Utah; Carolina Prime Pet, a North Carolina, a manufacturer and distributor of dog treats; Salix, a Florida manufacturer of rawhide dog chew products; SuperValu Inc., which owns Shaw's Supermarkets and Albertsons; and pet retailer Pet Smart have previously announced recalls.
Alaska Canine Cookies
Alaska Canine Cookies says in a media release that the potentially contaminated dog cookies were distributed in its four stores - in Anchorage, downtown Anchorage in the 5th Avenue Mall, Homer, and Wasilla and on the website www.alaskacaninecookies.com.
The cookies come in peanut butter, power bone and carrot cake flavors. The recalled products are:
- "Filled with Fun" bag, which is diagonally striped and contains three large bones.
- "Woof Pack," a 15-ounce bag labeled "Alaskan Woof Pack" with the Husk E. Dog on the front containing approximately 45 medium bones.
- "Filled with Fun" bag with a bone-shaped sticker reading "Peanut Butter for Dogs, a natural treat for dogs."
- "Woof Pack"bag with a bone-shaped sticker reading "Peanut Butter for Dogs, a natural treat for dogs."
- "Lollipup," 1-ounce bag with the Husk E. Dog on the front and the name "Lollipup" on the back containing one large bone. It is available only in the peanut butter flavor."Polar Pooch Pouch," 5-ounce bag with the Husk E. Dog on the front with "canine carrot cake" written across the front containing 12 medium bones. It is offered only in the carrot cake flavor.
The products have been available by request in bulk. All products have no product codes or UPC codes.
Consumers who have purchased any the products can to return them to the place of purchase for a refund. For more information, contact the company 1-800-280-2927.
Breadfarm's Sirius Dog Treats
In a media release, Breadfarm said that its recall affect Sirius Dog Treats sold in sealed 7-ounce cellophane packages purchased from from January 2007 to October 2008.
Consumers who purchased the Sirius Dog Treats can return them to Breadfarm for a refund. For more information, contact the company at 1-866-372-7323.
American Health Kennels
In a media release, American Health Kennels says it has had no reports of illness associated with the products. "We are effecting this recall in the interest of public safety even though we know our product is safe," the company states. The recalled products are:

Salix rawhide treats
In In a media release, Salix states that it has received no reports of illness from the rawhide treats it is recalling. The products are:
- Healthy-Hide Deli-Wrap 3-Pack 5-inch Peanut Butter-Filled Rawhide. The rawhide treats comes in a clear plastic bag with attached header card and the name Deli Wraps on the front. The Universal Product Code is 0-91093-33354-0. All packages are marked with one of the following lot codes: A 08 208, A 08 212, A 08 232, A 08 234, A 08 263, A 08 264, A 08 268, A 08 275, A 08 276 or A 08 277. It was sold at PetSmart, Target and Wegmans Food Stores throughout the United States and Canada.
- Healthy Hide 1-count 6-inch Peanut Butter Filled Shank Bone. The treat comes in a clear plastic bag with attached header card and the name Healthy Hide on the front. The Universal Product Code is 0-91093-33479-0. All packages are marked with one of the following lot codes: 20081508 and CP 20012209. It was sold at national retailers in the United States.

Happy Tails and Shoppers Valu biscuits
The recall by Shaw's and Albertsons involves Happy Tails and Shoppers Valu multi-flavored dog biscuits, according to a media release from Shaw's, which has stores throughout in New England. The biscuits were also sold at ACME, Jewel-Osco, and Star Market stores.
Albertsons says the products were sold at stores in Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Montana, Utah, Wyoming, Elko, Nev., and Williston, N.D.
The Happy Tails and Shoppers Valu products being recalled are:
- Happy Tails Multi-Flavored Dog Biscuits, 26 oz, UPC 41163-42406.
- Happy Tails Multi-Flavored Dog Biscuits, 4 pounds, UPC 41163-42403.
- Shoppers Valu Multi-Flavored Dog Biscuits, 4 pounds, UPC 41130-30507.

PetSmart Grreat Choice Dog Biscuits
PetSmart has recalled Grreat Choice Dog Biscuits sold in seven different package sizes. In a media release, PetSmart said the recall was a precaution, and it was unaware of any reported cases of illness related to the dog biscuits. The Phoenix-based company has removed the biscuits from shelves at its 1,107 pet stores in the United States and Canada and from its web site.
The Grreat Choice Dog Biscuits being recalled were sold from Aug. 21, 2008, to Jan. 19, 2009. They are:
- Small Assorted, 32 ounces, UPC 73725702900. -Small/Medium Assorted, 4 pounds, UPC 73725700601.
- Small/Medium Assorted, 8 pounds, UPC 73725700605.
- Small/Medium Assorted, 10 pounds, UPC 73725702755.
- Large Assorted, 8 pounds, UPC 73725700638. - Extra Large Assorted, 8 pounds, UPC 73725700779.
- Peanut Butter, 4 pounds, UPC 73725700766.
